Love Sandra Myria Reed was born in New Roads, Louisiana and have seven siblings. She received her B.A. in English and Drama Education from Dillard University. She is a veteran teacher of the Chicago Public Schools. One of her greatest challenges was serving two terms as an elected official and becoming one of the voices in government on the local, state and federal level. Heeding the voices of children and parents, she established the Myria Reed Foundation for Children with Special Needs.
As a member of Actor's Equity Union, she has performed in dance companies, plays and musicals throughout Illinois and Wisconsin. Sandra is also a member of SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators), Chicago Screenwriters Network, Chicago Women in Publishing, ARRAY Now ( Artists and Advocates for Independent Film Distribution and Resource), and Sundance Institute member.
Sandra has recently published her first novel Buckwheat's Journey. This novel is a multi-cultural/ethic middle grade fiction yet invites reading on all multi-levels or age groups. It is a light-hearted yet evocative perspective of stereotype and bullying. She is presently working tirelessly on revising a screenplay but loves it.
Her life journey and travels to Europe, Africa and Middle East shaped her writings through the culture, history, and geography. Several authors also influenced her writings: Douglas Turner Ward, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Henrik Ibsen, August Wilson, Lorraine Hansberry, Claude McKay, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Ayn Rand, Maya Angelou, Lewis Carroll, Ed Bullins, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Plato, Aristotle and authors of the Bible.
Sandra loves writing, particularly to transform and motivate readers. She is very passionate about exposing the realities of race issues. Sometimes she is blunt but in a healing way. Her objective is to identify problems yet encourage solutions.
Sandra appreciates the creative process in all forms. Three words describe her: Live, Laugh, and Love.
